April, 2013.  We are pleased to announce that Brittany Layne Stringer will be joining the firm as an associate in our litigation practice beginning this month.  Brittany is a 2012 graduate of LSU Law School, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, having graduated in the top 10% of her law school class, and served as an Issue Editor on the Louisiana Law Review.  During her time at LSU, Brittany received numerous awards and scholarships.  We welcome Brittany as an outstanding addition to the firm.

April, 2013.  All of the firm's attorney;s have been named as top attorney's for 2013 by SB Magazine. SB Magazine's listing is compiled from votes by lawyers, and lawyers are not allowed to nominate themselves.

Sarah Smith-Brown has been elected Vice-President, President- Elect of the Young Lawyers Section of the Shreveport Bar Association.

Ross E. Tuminello has accepted the firm's offer to join us in the practice of law beginning in the Fall, 2013.

RECENT NOTABLE LEGAL DEVELOPMENTS

In Clovelly Oil Co. Midstates Petroleum Co., 2012-C-2055 (La. 3/19/13), the Louisiana Supreme Court rules that a joint operating agreement (JOA), which did not contain an Area of Mutual Interest provision, did not apply to future leases in the contract area.  Instead, the JOA only applied to leases owned by the parties at the time of signing of the JOA.

November, 2012.  Article I, Section 11 of the Louisiana Constitution is amended to provide: The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms is fundamental and shall not be infringed.  Any restriction on this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.
