STEVEN R. BAKER

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1955, then moving with his family to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1966, Steve is a 1977 alumnus of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, from which he received a B.A. degree in history.  First working after graduation as an admissions counselor for that college, he went on to attend the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where he was on the Moot Court Board and its secretary,  graduating from the LSU Law School with his J.D. in 1982.

After graduation from law school, Steve initially accepted a position as a law clerk for the First Judicial District Court in Caddo Parish, and then, after a year of clerking on that court for District Judges C.J. Bolin and Eugene W. Bryson, he entered private practice in 1983 with the Shreveport law firm which ultimately became Burnett, Walker & Baker.  Steve practiced with that firm for over twenty-six years, until he accepted his current "Of Counsel" position with Ayres, Warren, Shelton & Williams, L.L.C. in 2010.

Among the areas of law in which Steve has primarily practiced are banking, business transactions, construction law, creditor relief in state and federal courts, representation of creditors in bankruptcy court, corporate and business formation, municipal government and political subdivision law, estate planning, successions, personal injury litigation, real estate, and private and agency adoptions of all types.

A BV rated lawyer in Martindale-Hubble, Steve is a member of the Shreveport and Louisiana State Bar Associations, and has been admitted to practice in Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana. He is also a Master in the Harry V. Booth-Judge Henry A. Politz American Inn of Court in Shreveport.

A member of the Louisiana City Attorneys Association, Steve is city attorney for the Town of Stonewall, Louisiana and the Village of  Belcher, Louisiana, and counsel for various fire protection districts and municipal and parish water districts and boards. He also was appointed by the Caddo Parish Commission to serve on a City-Parish Government Study Commission. A long time director and past chairman of Louisiana Child Care & Placement Services, Steve has also been involved for many years in working to protect the legal rights of children in private and public foster care facilities, as well as devoting a substantial amount of time to working with young people in a wide variety of educational and athletic contexts. He has also been a frequent lecturer on adoption law, wills, successions and basic estate planning.
